Severe Weather Awareness Week next week in state

With the Coronavirus outbreak the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in South Dakota will NOT be doing a formal tornado drill this year. Edmunds County will test the sirens in the county, but this will be for you to listen to the different tone of the siren compared with the normal Wednesday test tone.

The tornado tone will sound at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. There will be no take cover tone or all clear tone.

The NWS will be pushing tornado safety and planning information on April 22 — especially via social media outlets. The following is a list of what the NWS will be presenting on their outlets.

• Monday: Weather Alerts and Warnings

• Tuesday: Severe Storms, Lightning, Wind and Hail

• Wednesday: Tornado Safety Information

• Thursday: Flash Floods

• Friday: Extreme Heat
