Highly-rated Northwestern stops Ipswich netters

Ipswich dropped a 3-0 girls' high school volleyball LRC league decision to powerful Northwestern last Thursday in Mellette. The Tiger girls lost their opener 25-13 and then the second set 25-12, before doing somewhat better in the final set with a 25-17 setback.

The Wildcats were 76-85 at the net with 36 huge kills and Ipswich finished 48-65 in net play with 13 kills. Hailey Bierman went 13-14 with two kills, Paige Mehlberg 11-11 with four kills and Lindsey Grabowska 11-17 with three kills.

The service line resulted in a 34-43 three-aces evening for the Tiger girls, while Northwestern was 62-73 there with nine aces. There were three Tigers with seven accurate serves and one of them, Halle Heinz, included her team's trio of aces. The other serving leaders that night were Grabowska and Chesney Olivier.

Ipswich finished 63-64 in setting and included 13 assists. Heinz was 34-35 with seven assists and Bailey Pitz 20-20 with three assists.

Ipswich was paced in blocks by Halie Feldman, who finished with one solo block and one assisted block. The Tigers accumulated 45 digs, as well, with Chesney Olivier coming away with 16 digs to lead a balanced team effort. Northwestern countered with 49 digs.
