All of the local high school autumn sports team have either started or will be soon be starting their post-season competitions and one state meet is already scheduled for this weekend — the cross country meet near Rapid City on Saturday.
That wind was something else during the regional meet in Gettysburg, but Ipswich braved the wind and then some, qualifying its entire girls and boys teams for that state meet. And the North Central Thunder had two girls in the varsity regional meet competing for experience for next year and one boy (Alec Maier) who individually qualified for the state cross country event by virtue of his 11th-place Top 20 medal from that regional meet. So good luck in that cross country road trip to Black Hills.
And, meanwhile, the Ipswich/ Edmunds Central football team won't have that far to travel. That's because they will be hosting Britton-Hecla in a 9A football playoff on Thursday in the Tiger sports complex starting with a 7 p.m. kickoff. So good luck to you guys in that and also good luck to the area girls' volleyball participants, the Ipswich Tigers and the North Central Thunder, in their upcoming Region 2B appearances.
And now it has been beginning to look a little like winter.
