The Ipswich/Bowdle 2020-21 high school wrestling schedule will begin on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Stanley County.
The event will be a limited spectator event due to covid. "Yes, you must have a wrist band, which were given out to athletes, two per wrestler," says the Ipswich AD Dan Knust.
And this year's Tigers' cooperative varsity wrestling program will be without Leola, as that school has elected not to continue to participate this season. So it will indeed be the Ipswich/Bowdle Tigers.
A total of 11 seventh through 12th grade wrestlers have been working out in pre-season practices, coached by Todd Naasz. Tyler Tran is the lone senior and there are no juniors. But there will be five tenth-graders — Tanner Frickson, Lucas Rowland, Brady Unser, Grant Weisser and Darrel Yost.
Adam Kanable and Kadyn Weisser are ninth-graders on this year's roster and Lane Miller and Justin Rohrbach are eighth-graders. Seventh-grade hopeful Gunnar Knittel rounds out the list.
The season will progress towards post-season action with the regionals on February 20 to be announced and the State B is scheduled for February 25-27 in Rapid City. There are currently no regular-season varsity meets scheduled in Ipswich, but the Tiger team bus won't always have very far to travel. Five meets will be hosted by Faulkton, as well as a pair of high school mat events to be hosted in Warner. And the Tigers are hoping to build some momentum during each outing.
