Ipswich girls get win in Eureka, Coach Hogie's 200th career victory

Ipswich won a 64-33 girls' high school basketball league outcome last Tuesday vs. North Central in Eureka.

The Tiger girls would win the opening quarter 21-6 starting with a Hailey Bierman trey and their first double-figure lead would prove to be 16-6 after a Halle Heinz offensive rebound return.

But the Thunder and Ipswich both tallied 13 points in the second-quarter scoring derby, still leaving Ipswich ahead 34-19 at the half and 54-30 with a quarter to play and the Tigers were able to comfortably coast to their win. Quincy Olivier scored their last basket of the game in a relief role.

Heinz finished with 19 points to lead all scorers and she included a trio of treys. Hailey Bierman was next with 18 points, featuring a pair of accurate trey attempts. After them, Katie Bierman also climbed the double-figure scoring plateau with a total of exactly 10 points. Lindsey Grabowska contributed five points, then Chesney Oliver and Bailey Pitz with four points apiece. (Pitz included Ipswich's remaining trey.) Then came Quincy Olivier with her game-ending basket for two points and Ashton Loken also came off the bench for two points.

Meanwhile, the Thunder obtained seven scorers led by Krystal Geier's 13-point night. Next was Brittney Frickson with seven points.

Ipswich shot 25-62 from the floor and that included those six treys. The Tigers were a warm 8-10 at the free throw line. The Thunder made 14 baskets and included two treys and were 3-6 in free throws.

Ipswich collected 35 rebounds and the NC Thunder, 36 for one of their highlights that night. The IHS girls were led by Grabowska, Halie Feldman and Tarynn Kleffman with four apiece. But Ipswich only sustained 12 turnovers compared to the Thunder's 20. One reason for that was that Ipswich came away with 17 steals, led by Heinz with six thefts. Ipswich dished out 12 assists, led by Pitz with four.

And last, but certainly not least, Ipswich coach Brian Hogie celebrated his 200th career girls basketball coaching milestone here in Ipswich with that win!
