Ipswich featured a balanced scoring attack to knock off Northwestern's girls' high school basketball team 45-31 in a LRC showdown in Ipswich on Monday.
Ipswich narrowly led 13-12 after a quarter and gradually lengthened its advantage, leading 24-19 thanks to a Katie Bierman buzzer-beater at intermission. Ipswich then narrowly won the third-quarter 9-8 and also enjoyed a 12-5 scoring edge in the final quarter with the Tigers leading 45-29 late in the game after a Hailey Bierman basket. So as you can see the Tigers indeed won each individual quarter!
The IHS contingent was led by Katie Bierman with 13 points, including one trey and Bailey Pitz was next with nine points featuring a pair of treys. Hailey Bierman was right behind her with eight points and she included Ipswich's remaining trey.
Chesney Olivier was next with six points, followed by Halie Feldman with five points. Lindsey Grabowska added three points.
The visitors were led by Ella Haven with 10 points and Hannah Schentzel added eight points. Jessica Boekelheide was next with six points and three more Wildcats got in their scorebook that night.
Ipswich utilized 17 accurate floor shots including its four treys and ended up 6-12 in free throw tries. The visitors netted 13 baskets that included a pair of treys and were 3-7 at the charity stripes.
Ipswich obtained 36 rebounds, led by Feldman with six and Chesney Olivier with five. (The visitors also collected 36 rebounds.) Ipswich sustained only seven turnovers; Northwestern 10 in a well-played floor game by both schools. Ipswich collected six steals, led by Katie Bierman's three.
