Ipswich comfortably defeated Leola/Frederick 51-33 in LRC girls' high school basketball action last Tuesday in Leola.
The hosts would need a major second-half rally, because they had trailed 17-5 after a quarter and then 29-11 at the half. The Titans were able to win the third-quarter scoring battle 14-9, but that would be too little too late. That's because Ipswich would seal its victory with a 13-8 scoring edge in the final stanza.
Ipswich had established its initial double-figure lead 12-0 right out of the starting gate. Chesney Olivier started it with a pair of baskets, followed by Lindsey Grabowska's layup. Hailey Bierman added two straight baskets and her sister Katie Bierman a driving layup before the hosts would finally respond.
Chesney Olivier would finish with 15 points for the Tiger girls and five assists, followed by Bailey Pitz with nine points that included a pair of treys. The Bierman girls would each finish with six points and Halie Feldman five points that featured Ipswich's remaining trey. Grabowska would finish with four points, as would Ashton Loken and Quincy Olivier added a basket.
The Tigers netted 21 baskets that included those three treys and were 6-10 in free throw shooting accuracy that evening.
The hosts scoring and their other stats were not available as of our newspaper deadline. But Ipswich collected 24 rebounds, led by Chesney Olivier with seven and Feldman added five retrieves. The Tigers had 17 turnovers, but accrued 14 steals, led by Katie Bierman with five thefts.
