There will be one girls' basketball team in the State B from Region 2B and the same will be true for the 2B boys. How is that? The Herreid/Selby Area Wolverine girls were able to hang on to win their SoDak 16 battle with Menno, winning a close one that went down to the final possession, as close games so often do. But last year's girls' State B qualifier Faulkton was eliminated by Ethan in their 2021 SoDak 16 showdown.
Here's why Region 2B will only send one team to the boys' B, Potter County or Lower Brule! The 2B bracket champions, were to indeed face each other in the SoDak 16 round, so only one of them can advance to the boys' B later this month that's slated for Aberdeen. (Ipswich had lost its 2B bracket championship clash 60-48 vs. Lower Brule last Friday at Lower Brule.) And Potter County would advance to the SoDak 16 with back to back 2B wins over North Central and Herreid/Selby Area.
Meanwhile, the girls' State B is slated for March 11-13 in Huron at the Huron Arena. Top seeded and unbeaten Castlewood will face #8 Waverly/South Shore at noon on Thursday, followed by #4 Hanson vs. #5 Ethan at around 2 p.m. The evening session will feature #2 White River vs. #7 Viborg-Hurley at 5 p.m. and #3 Corsica-Stickney will indeed square off with the Region 2B qualifier #6 Herreid-Selby Area in the opening day's nightcap game.
The girls' State A and State AA will also be in progress this weekend at their respective locations. Aberdeen Roncalli is going to the State A with an impressive SoDak 16 win over Redfield that was played on a neutral court in Ipswich last Thursday.
