South Dakota State University held its annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Day virtually April 12-14.
In addition to selecting top student performances, the university announced the recipients of the Schultz-Werth Awards and the Joseph F. Nelson Undergraduate Research Mentorships.
Ben Pond of Ipswich was among the students recognized. Pond, Richard Fisher of Brookings and Emma Spors, New London, Minn. had the top posters in mathematics and statistics.
URSCAD is organized by SDSU’s Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College.“The quality of the Schultz-Werth and undergraduate research entries this year are a true testament to the commitment of faculty and students to undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity at SDSU,” said Rebecca Bott-Knutson, dean of the Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College.
“Despite COVID-19-related delays in research and the temporary closing of laboratories and other facilities at the beginning of the year, our senior papers were as strong as ever. We experienced a 100% completion rate for undergraduate research projects that were funded last year and have a new crop of innovative projects ready to begin this summer. Congratulations and thank you to our students and to everyone who made it possible for them to continue to receive the best possible education this year.”
