Netters earn home court win over SBA

Ipswich won the Battle of Highway 45 in non-conference high school girls' volleyball action in the Tiger Den last Thursday.

How's that? The Tigers topped Sunshine Bible Academy, located south of Miller, in straight sets 25-11, 25-4 and 25-14, as the visiting Crusaders valiantly attempted to get back into contention. (The Tigers had been simply over-powering in the second set.)

The individual set points? "Game one was a Net Fault on them as they were trying to block Tasia (Rivera)," explained Coach Trent Osborne. The second set-point in the second set was a SBA hitting error and the third set-point and match-point would be delivered by Katie Bierman's ace serve.

Ipswich finished with 13 aces among its 61 accurate serves in 69 attempts. Quincy Olivier was 18 of 19 with four aces, followed by Baylee Kulesa 10-10 with three aces. The Crusaders countered with a lone ace from Aja Paul.

The Tigers' 53-63 hitting attack featured 30 kills, compared to SBA's three kills. (Sadie Konechne, Annaliese Van Zee and Rylee Nelson each had one kill.) Ipswich was again led by Gracie Lange's 20-23 12-kills evening. Next were Bierman at 9-11 with seven kills and Rivera, 6-6 with five kills.

All that was enabled with a 53-53 setting effort that included 20 assists. Olivier went 49-49 with 17 assists and Bierman was next at 3-3 with a pair of assists. (Jakki Burma delivered SBA's lone setting assist.)

Ipswich had another balanced digging effort obtaining 30 digs, led by Madison Geditz with 11 and Kulesa with six. Ipswich also utilized two blocking assists, one each from Kulesa and Vanessa Diaz.

The win improved Ipswich to 5-1 at that stage of the Tigers' 2021 campaign.
