The Ipswich Flower and Garden Club will be holding an Italian Dinner fundraiser on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the UCC Church Fellowship Hall.
A Silent Auction from 5-6 p.m. will be held in conjunction with the dinner.
"A few years ago we came up with a maintenance plan to paint some of the buildings, replace some siding, fix windows, and replace the worn steps at the school and Schwall House with handicapped accessible entries," said Patty Kadlec, President of the Ipswich Flower and Garden Club. "We are a small group of women and we started by painting the lower portion of the school and parts of the Schwall House, Owens Building and Post Office. We contracted the painting of the Church," Kadlec continued."
Sue Hoyle, the club's secretary added, "While doing the painting project, we noticed that the amount of siding needing replacement was greater than anticipated and the windows were rapidly deteriorating and some would need to be replaced instead of repaired."
Donna Brockel, Treasurer said, "When Covid 19 hit, we were unable to hold fundraisers and there were no visitors to Pioneer Village, reducing outside donations. The cost to hire the church power washed and painted was over $4,700 plus we still had our standard costs of insurance and mowing. Our funds depleted rapidly." A few calls were made and each of the club's members agreed to donate an additional $50 to get through 2020 with hopes that 2021 would be a better year.
We are now trying to play catchup and are trying something new – an Italian Dinner and Silent Auction," Kadlec said. "Modern Woodmen has agreed to provide up to $2,000 matching funds and the proceeds will be used for repairs to siding and windows for the Schwall House and Owens building."
The group is seeking donations of items for the silent auction. If you have something you would like to donate, contact Patty Kadlec at 605-216-1543, Sue Hoyle at 605-380-6704, or Donna Brockel at 605-380-4337.
The Ipswich football team will be playing an away game in Leola on October 8 so the Flower and Garden Club is encouraging everyone to stop in for supper and a little socializing before heading out to the game.
