Cross Country team competes in Faulkton

The Ipswich cross country contingent attended a cross country event in Faulkton on September 22 more or less entered by the Ipswich runners as a JV event.

But Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock won the girls' varsity individually in 19:12. And Potter County won the varsity girls' team title over Aberdeen Roncalli.

The varsity boys' race, meanwhile, was won by Miller's Pierce Baumberger in 17:16. And his team comfortably led those standings 10 to 21 over the runners-up from Northwestern Area.

But there were no fewer than five IHS girls in their JV action, led by Gabrielle Wald in second at 18:10. Katelyn Tufte placed fourth in 18:52 and Ava Davis finished in 12th at 20:30 and Hailey Usselman was 24th in 23:41, followed by Chloe Jager in 26th at 25:12. That allowed the Tigers to finish first in the girls' JV division with 9 team points and Miller in second at 16.

The boys’ JV race was won by Spencer Sargent of Sunshine Bible Academy in 15:32. (Northwestern won that team title.)

Meanwhile the girls' 3K was won by Frederick Area as a team, but Ipswich's own Aubree DeRaad sped to a winning 12:56 individual clocking. The Tiger girls' 3K middle-schoolers also included Bella Unser in 15th at 15:47.

Ipswich did win the middle-school boys' team competition, though, with 17 team points to Frederick Area's 22. But the Titans featured the individual 3K champion Titus Kippley in 11:52. But Ipswich ran as a team placing all three boys in the Top 10 — Jace Stiles fifth in 12:40, Tyler Gellhaus seventh in 12:58 and Clayton Horst eighth in 13:07.

The Tigers were scheduled to run in Miller on Monday. The Lake Region Conference (LRC) meet is planned on Oct. 6 in Ipswich.
