The Library Remembers When...

WHY DO WE HAVE POPPY DAY?

First, because of the great amount of good which is accomplished by giving the disabled veterans the chance to make them. What could be better than helping a man to keep his self-respect by earning a little money in this way?

Second, the money derived from the sale of poppies is the greatest means of revenue by which the rehabilitation and child welfare programs are carried on. Poppy day is the one day the public is privileged to contribute toward this worth cause.

Third, always in our hearts is a feeling of reverence for those who did not come back and on Memorial Day we demonstrate this feeling by wearing the blood red poppy. When the sentiment is gone the national poppy program has lost its greatest objective.

The Boy Scouts will sell the poppies on Poppy Day in Ipswich.

WHY BUY POPPIES

Picture the mental strain of the non-compensated man in the hospital as he thinks of his wife and family at home with no income. Then open to him an opportunity to do something which will provide him per income of from $60.00 to $75.00 per month with the additional satisfaction of knowing that the proceeds of the sale of the product of his labor will go to lessen the burden of and make happier his wounded buddy or his family and you have the reason why all should buy poppies which will be offered for sale by the American Legion Auxiliary.

The veterans in the hospitals are paid for making them and the proceeds go to help the men and their wives and families who are unable to help themselves. You of course pay the bill when you buy the poppy, and you are glad to do this “bit” in so great a cause. May 26th is Poppy day. On or before that day representatives of the Ipswich Legion Auxiliary will canvass the towns in the jurisdiction of that organization in an effort to sell more poppies and thus do more for the district for the disabled buddies than has been done before.

BUY ME-I stand for service. I enable one cent to be earned by a disheartened service man in the hospital who needed it and all you pay for me goes for service for those for whom the war is not yet over. BUY ME

WEAR ME-I represent the sacrificial blood of the men who fell in Flanders Field. I am a Memorial to all who died in the service. In reverence and understanding. Wear Me.
