Ipswich topped Faulkton Area 20-6 in a Lake Region Conference varsity football game last Friday in Faulkton.
The Tigers' defensive effort would hold the Trojans to 40 rushing yards. They did fare a little better in the air, though, thanks to a 18-33-4 passing effort by Faulkton quarterback Parker Geditz. (Ryan Beckler had four catches for 77 yards.)
Yes that is correct, the Faulkton offensive effort did sustain some costly turnovers, including those four interceptions. One of those was a pass interception TD by Ty Kadlec that would put the Tigers up 18-0 early in the final quarter. And Ian Beyers passed to Kadlec for the two-point conversion. (The Trojans were finally able to get on their scoreboard late in the game with a Geditz 11-yard touchdown pass to Bennett Cassens, but their PAT play failed.)
Meanwhile, Ipswich opened scoring with a first-quarter 35-yard TD scamper by Carson Gohl. But the PAT play would fail. Neither team was able to score in the entire second quarter, leaving Ipswich with a precarious 6-0 lead at intermission. The Tigers would then obtain the third-quarter's lone score, courtesy of a five-yard TD carry by Gohl, but the PAT try would again be unsuccessful.
Ipswich would unofficially fuel its win with 128 rushing yards on 37 carries, led by Gohl's 106 on 14 attempts. The Tigers were also helped by Ian Beyer's 5-11-0 passing evening that would net six more yards.
Ipswich created eight first downs; Faulkton, 12.
Defensively, Tyler Hettich would lead Ipswich's balanced defensive effort with 11 tackles and Matthew Jaenisch came up with eight tackles and two interceptions. Luke Peterson also finished with eight tackles and Kadlec two interceptions. Meanwhile, Hunter Niederbaumer would lead Faulkton with 17 tackles.
This was the first time Ipswich had defeated Faulkton since 2008, according to Coach Brian Hogie.
Ipswich improved to 5-1 with its win, while Faulkton dropped to 5-2. The Tigers will get another LRC test on Friday in Leola vs. Leola/Frederick Area.
