Boys basketball play begins Dec. 11

It's that time of the year again! Ipswich will feature seven senior boys' basketball players along with six additional juniors on its roster. So the 2021-22 Tigers' team under Coach Tyler Severson should be quite deep with plenty of upper-class leadership. This year Severson will be assisted by both Trent Osborne and Todd Thorson.

The 2020-21 Tigers' varsity finished its season at 15-7, concluding with a Region 2B bracket championship loss to Lower Brule. So they are definitely hoping to be in the hunt again this year.

And you will recognize several football names on the entire IHS basketball roster who could help bring some physicality and athleticism to the line-up. "We really like the talent and athleticism throughout our entire program, freshmen through seniors," says Severson. "We are hoping to be able to use our athleticism to control the tempo and playing fast in transition offense and forcing other teams to play faster than what they would like."

Those seniors alphabetically are Trevor Beyers, Zach Geditz, Carson Gohl, Ty Kadlec, Luke Peterson, Zach Reuschlien and Taylor Thorson. The juniors include Ian Beyers, Carter Geditz, Tyler Hettich, Evan Onken, Colby Sylte and Turner Thorson.

There are four sophomores and they are Trevor Heinz, Xavier Kadlec, Jace Konsor and Chet Peterson and the four freshmen newcomers are Hayden Crissman, Tucker Kadlec, Max Kulesa and Rasmus Loken. That all adds up to a total of 21 players in this year's boys' basketball program.

The team will have its initial game on the road at Waubay/ Summit on December 11 and their initial home appearance will be vs North Central in a girls/boys LRC league twin-bill on December 14 in the Tiger Den. (Tiger boys' basketball fans should be able to view their team on 11 different occasions at home in the Tiger Den this season.)

The Region 2B post-season drama will begin on February 28 and will include Miller which is stepping down into Class B.
