Ipswich claimed a 40-33 boys' high school basketball road win over LRC rival Langford Area last Thursday in Langford.
The Tigers had opened up some breathing room late in the third quarter to narrowly lead 30-28, despite a buzzer-beater basket from the hosts, entering the final stanza. But treys by Ian Beyers and Trevor Beyers, respectively plus a two-point basket by Taylor Thorson and another from Colby Sylte would suddenly lift Ipswich into a 40-28 lead. The hosts managed a trey plus a two-point basket as the game clock was winding down. So they had to foul for possession. But it would prove to be too little too late.
Ipswich had led 12-10 after a quarter and then owned a 21-20 edge at intermission, thanks to two straight Trevor Beyers' three-balls to end the half. (The hosts had manufactured a little momentum to grab a brief 20-15 two-possession lead.)
Ian Beyers finished with five treys enroute to a 16-point game high scoring night and Trevor Beyers woud total three treys among his double-figure 13 point evening.
Ipswich also entered five additional players into its scorebook, led by Carter Geditz with three points and Taylor Thorson, Carson Gohl, Sylte and Zach Geditz with two points apiece.
The Lions were led by Jackson Bahr with 12 points and Ben Gustavson was next with eight points, while three other Lion players scored in this Battle of the Big Cats.
Ipswich finished 15-42 in floor shooting that featured those eight treys. The Tigers added a 2-5 free throw night. The Lions totaled 10 accurate floor shots with five of them being treys. They added a 8-12 free throw evening.
Ipswich obtained 30 rebounds and Langford, 24. But Ipswich sustained 19 turnovers; Langford, 12.
