Ipswich lost a varsity girls' basketball 55-34 verdict to James Valley Christian on January 22 in the Tiger Den.
The Tiger girls would face a 17-7 first-quarter ending shortfall, despite a Quincy Olivier buzzer- beater. Katie Bierman would then end the second-quarter scoring with a basket that would leave her team trailing 28-13 at intermission. The visitors would still lead 38-23 with a quarter to play and were able to coast to their eventual 21-point win.
They were paced by the game's leading scorer Karilyn Wieting with 18 points, followed by Alexa Goertz also into double-figures with her 14 points. So was Brenna Held with 11 points. Four more Vikings would score that afternoon, as well.
Ipswich was led by Bierman's 15 points and she included one trey. Kaylin Onken was next with her eight points. But further scoring tapered off to six points from Olivier and three points by Karlie Gohl, which was a trey. Ashlyn Weig completed their ledger with a two-point basket.
Ipswich shot 16-46 from the floor that included those two treys and didn't even get to the free throw line. The visitors were 23-60 from the floor, including two treys as well. (They did arrive at the free throw line by the way and were a warm 7-8 there.)
Ipswich made 17 turnovers; JVC only eight. But the Tigers were able to grab 32 rebounds, led by Olivier with seven. (The Vikings countered with 37 rebounds.)
Ipswich came away with four steals and 15 assists led by Bierman and Gabby Wald with five assists each.
The Tiger girls and boys were next scheduled to play Herreid/ Selby Area on the road on January 28. The girls only will play Leola/Frederick in Ipswich on February 1 and that will indeed be a Lake Region Conference confrontation.
