Fire Department simulation at Ipswich School

On the evening of March 9, the Ipswich Volunteer Fire Department in coordination with the Ipswich School and Superintendent Trent Osborne, preformed a live training drill that simulated a fire inside one of the rooms at the school.

Firefighters were paged out as if it were the real thing and they responded to the school from the fire hall.

The firefighters arrived and the School Superintendent Osborne met them at the school entrance and advised that there was a fire in the "C" building.  All the fire alarms were sounding and the strobe light were flashing as the firefighters geared up in their turnout gear and breathing apparatus.

The volunteer firefighters pulled a hose line into the school building and simulated attacking the fire and extinguishing it. Firefighters went through the scenario as if it were a real fire.

A smoke machine that emits a non-toxic smoke was used to simulate the fire.

Fire Chief Tracy Hutson said, "It is very important for all the firefighters to be familiar with all the equipment that the department has and how to use it in an emergency. Future drills are on the table."

After the drill, the firefighters critiqued the drill so they can improve their skill set.

The IVFD thanks Superintendent Osborne for accommodating them and also for the tour of the facility.
