Comments on March weather from 47 years:
March is definitely the transition month from winter to spring. The percent for zero or below temp. readings for March drops off to 10% from a high of 44% in January and 37% for February. One of the main reasons for some months of March being cool to others being mild is snowpack. This definitely shows up in my records.
2018: Cool March – Average high temp. 34° and low 20° – 28 days in the 20s and low 30s as the high temp. – Snowpack on the ground the entire month which averaged 15 inches starting with a carry over from February and a major snow event on the 5th and 6th of 17 inches which hardly melted.
2021: Mild March – Average high temp. of 51° and low 24° – No temps. below 10° which is rare – No carry over snowpack from Feb. – Two snow events, 3 inches on the 11th and 3 inches on the 15th which melted down quickly leaving .49 of moisture and no snowpack.
