Gala Day win for FB team

Ipswich blanked Northwestern Area 48-0 in Lake Region Conference high school football action last Friday to cap Gala Day festivities.

The Tigers' defense asserted itself right away, as the visitors would go 1-2-3 and out forcing their first of several punting situations.

Ipswich immediately strung together its initial touchdown drive that was capped by a Ian Beyers to Tyler Hettich pass play that covered 24 yards. And Lucas Rowland added a conversion carry for an 8-0 lead. And that would really be all Ipswich would need as its defense would pitch that shutout.

But the Tigers would force another punt and used that opportunity for a scoring drive completed by Rowland's one-yard plunge. And Tyler Hettich added the PAT run for a 16-0 IHS.

Guess what? The visitors would punt yet again in the opening quarter and Ipswich electrified its fans with a Beyers to Colby Sylte 79-yard TD pass play and a Beyers conversion run.

Ipswich would score twice more in the second quarter, the first a Beyers to Max Kulesa pass of 48 yards. And Beyers would find Carter Geditz for the conversion pass competition. Casey Geditz provided yet another IHS score thanks to his 29-yard interception run to paydirt. And after Beyers' conversion pass to Kulesa the Tigers would go ahead 40-0 at intermission.

They capped scoring with a third-quarter touchdown that was a 41-yard scoring strike from Beyers to Tyler Hettich and a Casey Geditz conversion run.

Beyers finished 11-13 through the air with an evening for 290 yards that included that quartet of touchdown completions. He sustained one interception.

His leading receiver would indeed be Tyler Hettich with three catches for 91 yards and those two touchdowns. Kulesa would finish with three catches for 65 yards and that TD. Carter Geditz was next with three grabs for 48 yards and Chet Peterson had one catch of seven yards.

Ipswich was led in rushing by Casey Geditz with eight carries totaling 39 yards and Tyler Hettich had four runs for 45 yards. Rowland, meanwhile, ended up with two carries for four yards that included that touchdown.

Ipswich would earn 12 tackles by Casey Geditz and an interception. Carter Geditz added six tackles and an interception and Brody Davis added four tackles also with an interception.

Ipswich improved to 3-1 with its homecoming victory. The Tigers will then host Herreid/Selby Area in a huge non-conference clash on Friday at the Tigers' athletic complex.
