Ipswich Cross Country team competes in Webster

Ipswich attended a cross country invite at Webster last Tuesday that was run under Class A team scoring criteria. That required a minimum of four runners, not just three like in Class B hosted meets.

But the Tigers were able to obtain some impressive results in their various divisions.

For instance Xavier Kadlec placed eighth in the boys' 5K in 19:04.35 that was won by Deuel's Ricky Berndt in 17:33.77. And Turner Thorson was ninth in 19:19.47. Dylan Wald finished 25th in 20:24.20. There was a total of 59 entrants and Frederick Area placed first as a team with 31 points.

Meanwhile the women's 5K was individually won by Ella Boekelheide from Northwestern in 19:57.21. And Clark/Willow Lake became the girls' team champions with their 24.

Ipswich placed Madisyn Gellhaus in seventh at 22:03.20 and Gracyn Kadlec was 17th among 40 contestants in 22:49.43.

Aubree DeRaad was entered in the girls JV fray and all she did was to win the event in 14:21.74. There were 36 entrants in that division. Ava Davis was 12th in 16:21.39, Bella Unser 24th in 18:43.38 and Hailey Usselman 32nd in 21:00.01. They combined for fourth as a team there.

And Ipswich did some damage among the girls' middle-schoolers as well, led by Sophia Knittel's second-place outcome in 15:42.91 only behind Madison Stemwedel of Florence/Henry (15:11.89).

Aubrey Crissman was eighth in 17:19.91 and Olivia Kadlec 17th in 20:47.41. Then came Darcy Yost 18th in 21:25.16. They allowed Ipswich to become second in the girls team standings where Florence/Henry was first.

Ipswich was led by Tyler Gellhaus in seventh in the boys' JV run in 14:07.80. Howard Sumption of Frederick Area won that in 12:56.31 and Northwestern won the boys' JV team title. Ipswich also landed Tye Pietz in 12th at 14:32.09.

Ipswich, and everybody for that matter, was led by Ethan Wald indeed first in the boys' middle-school event in 14:11.57 and Jace Stiles was third in 14:56.06. Clayton Horst was sixth in 15:47.85 and Gavin Horst 11th in 17:19.65, followed by Edison Unser 16th in 18:58.53. And Jasper Opsahl completed their effort by placing 20th in 19:44.97. As you might guess Ipswich indeed captured a team title in this event.

The Tigers were to run in the Potter County Invitational in Gettysburg on Saturday, Sept. 17 and in Faulkton on Wednesday, Sept. 21. They will run in Miller on Monday, Sept. 26.
