Doris Geist 88, of Roscoe passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Avera St.Lukes Hospital Aberdeen.
The Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Roscoe, with Pastor Tony Hansen officiating.
Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe. Following burial will be a time of fellowship and luncheon at the church.
Doris Mae (Brandner) Geist was born to Emil and Emma (Hieb) Brandner on May 12th, 1934 on a farm nine miles northeast of Hosmer. At the age of 11 she moved with her family to a farm two miles south of Roscoe. Doris was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, which remained important to her all of her life. She attended and graduated from Roscoe High School in May of 1953.
Following high school graduation, Doris moved to Aberdeen where she worked at Fanny Farmer Confectionery. Doris was united in marriage to Herbert Geist of Roscoe on January 24, 1954. The couple lived on a farm 9.5 miles south of Roscoe raising livestock and grain. Doris and Herbert were blessed with two sons, Clayton and Kurt. Following Herbert's passing away on August 24, 1983, Doris moved to Roscoe where she made her home until the time of her death.
Doris loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She provided many after-school snacks and meals, played board games, and enjoyed attending their many activities with loving support and encouragement. Doris was a music and theater enthusiast and she enjoyed attending sporting events at the local high school as well.
Doris was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Roscoe where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and being a member of the St. Paul's Ladies Aid for many years. Doris was a member of the Ivy Circle Garden Club where she enjoyed planting flowers and making crafts with her friends. She was a member of the Birthday Club and Senior Citizens group. Doris enjoyed playing cards, especially a rousing game of pinochle, and called Dawn every time she "shot the moon."
At home, Doris loved gardening were she grew many beautiful plants and flowers each spring. She enjoyed searching for and cooking new recipes, and baking treats for her family and friends. Doris' many hobbies included counted cross-stitch crafts, embroidery, reading, watching movies and sports on television.
Doris loved all of the holidays and she enjoyed making her home beautiful with decorations for every season. She was known for keeping in touch with family and friends through phone calls and sending thoughtful cards with personal notes. Doris absolutely treasured family gatherings, reunions, celebrations, and visits. She had a sense of adventure and often spoke of a special trip to the West Coast with her sisters in recent years.
Doris will be forever treasured and held in the memories of her family members.
She is survived by her sons, Clayton (Dawn) Geist of Roscoe, and Kurt Geist of Gaston, Ore.; three granddaughters, Ashley (Tony) Geist Cusick of Aberdeen, Bailey (Joel) Geist Schlottman of Anoka, Minn., and Ember Geist of Roscoe; three sisters, Frances Hunter of Torrance, Calif., Virginia Hoff of Aberdeen and Judy France of Vancouver, Wash.; many nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years, Herbert; her parents, Emil and Emma Brandner; her brother, James Brandner; her sister, Irene Aman; and many treasured friends.
