Ipswich opened its 2022-23 girls' high school basketball campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 6 on the road vs. Sully Buttes.
Details of that non-conference game weren't available as of our newspaper deadline.
The Tiger girls would only win six varsity games last year with 15 defeats in a definite rebuilding season. Some of those outcomes were quite close, so that experience should be quite valuable this time around.
Especially with four seniors, Baylee Kulesa, Kaitlyn Bierman, Ashlyn Weig and Quincy Olivier! Karlie Gohl will be a junior who should help to provide more upperclass leadership for Coach Brian Hogie and his assistant Brittney Phillips.
There will also be some sophomores, namely Sommer DeRaad, Kaylin Onken and Rylee Kleffman as well as freshmen newcomers Gabby Wald, Brianna Geditz and Marley Guthmiller. That adds all up to a total of 11 9-12 graders at this point in time.
The girls' first home contest will be on December 11 vs. Hitchcock-Tulare in non-conference action. Their first LRC league game will be a girls/boys twinbill on December 13 in Bowdle vs. the North Central Thunder.
The regular-season schedule will progress along towards post-season action beginning February 20. The State B is set for March 9-11 at Huron.
