Fiddlin' Around

This column is very often about the weather or sports and this one for obviously reasons will be about both, the weather and the sports (and other extra-curricular events) that had to be postponed (or possibly even cancelled) due to last week’s historical weather event.

Our local weather guy Marv Seyer explains how he is able to accurately guestimate with a formula for the amount of precipitation in a blizzard.

This one was one that was ushered in by freezing drizzle and then some nasty freezing rain that once again preceded the snow.

Seyer’s measurement is based on a precedure that he has learned, and he could confidentally total last week’s snow at 16 inches.

It’s beginning to appear that the climate must be changing to the extent that these potent storms in our neck of woods now start with a considerate amount of a wintry mix before changing totally over to snow. We’ll see!

At any rate, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! (Those school activity directors are probably still trying to determine all the re-schedules. And possibly even some area churches.)

Last week the mail bags were delayed due to the weather and road conditions. Hopefully this week’s newspaper will have an easier trip to your hands.
