Ipswich lost a boys high school basketball outing to James Valley Christian in Huron Saturday, Jan. 21. The final score was 57-52 with the host team on top. This was a hard-fought affair with two well-matched teams going at it.
Ipswich would lead 9-8 after a quarter, but the hosts would jump ahead 27-24 at intermission and then extended that lead to 39-35 after three quarters were in the books awaiting the final outcome.
The hosts were led by Landon Wager with 15 points followed by Dax Frandsen with 13 points. Landon Wallman was also in the double-figure scoring column with 12 points. And Jerrad Wallman was almost there with his nine points, followed by Ethan Bartholow and Isaac Korell with four points each. They were 20-46 in total floor shots that included six treys and were a warm 11-13 in free throws.
Ipswich countered with balanced scoring led by Tyler Hettich and Trevor Heinz with 13 points each. (Hettich included three treys and Heinz, one.) Blake Rich had nine points and Ian Beyers and Chet Peterson each with five points that included a lone trey. Jace Konsor scored three points thanks to a trey and Carter Geditz and Turner Thorson, two points each.
Ipswich was 20-47 from the floor that included those seven treys. (The Tigers were 5-11 in free throws.)
Ipswich obtained 28 rebounds led by Rich and Geditz with eight apiece. The Tigers committed 12 turnovers; JVC 13. Heinz would have four steals with his entire team obtaining nine thefts.
The IHS boys and girls will host Herreid/Selby on Friday, Jan. 27. Saturday the boys will play at Highmore-Harrold.
