Tigers defeat rival Trojans at home

The Ipswich boys hosted Faulkton on January 20 in Ipswich and earned a 54-30 Lake Region Conference victory.

The visitors were able to obtain a 11-10 first-quarter lead, but the Tigers would sprint out to a more comfortable 21-16 haltime lead of their own. They then led 46-25 after three quarters and coasted to their victory. (A Trevor Heinz basket would give Ipswich its first double-figure lead of the evening at 26-16.)

The Tigers were indeed led in scoring by Heinz with his 19 points, includng three treys. Tyler Hettich added eight points including one trey. Ian Beyers finished with seven points featuring a lone trey and Chet Peterson and Blake Rich each added five points. (Peterson included a trey.) Carter Geditz was next with four points. And Colby Sylte, Evan Onken and Turner Thorson each contributed two points.

Faulkton was led by Layne Cotton and Gus Kopecky each with eight points. Roman DiMaria added five points and Spencer Melius, four points. Next were Trey Machtemes and Cord Brand with two points apiece and Charlie Dieter with a free throw.

Ipswich totaled 23 baskets that included those six treys and went 2-4 in their free throw trips. Faulkton finished with 12 accurate floor shots all from within the trey arc and six free throws.

The Tigers grabbed 34 rebounds led by Peterson and Thorson with seven each. Ipswich sustained only 10 turnovers, but pirated nine steals paced by Sylte and Beyers with three thefts apiece.
