Ipswich was defeated 40-17 by Leola/Frederick in a typically low scoring defense-oriented Lake Region Conference girls' high school basketball confrontation last Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Leola.
The hosts would slowly pull away, leading 8-2 at the first-quarter break and then 22-5 at intermission. They created even more distance leading 35-8 with a quarter to play.
Ipswich was led by Gabby Wald with five total points, followed by Baylee Kulesa with four points. Marley Guthmiller added three points and Quincy Olivier and Karlie Gohl two points apiece. Completing their ledger with a free throw would be Kaylin Onken.
Meanwhile the hosts utilized balanced scoring as well with seven different scorers led by Sophia Losure with 10 points and Chloe Arneson was next with nine points.
The Titans totaled 12 baskets including five treys and were able to net 11 free throws. Ipswich responded with six field goals all from inside the trey arc and was 5-11 in its free throw tries.
Leola-Frederick grabbed 30 total rebounds and Ipswich, 25, led by Olivier with five boards. The Titans ended up with 17 turnovers and Ipswich, 12. Ten of the hosts' miscues were directly caused by Tiger steals. The hosts dished out 10 assists and the Tigers, five.
