Ipswich got back on the boys' high school basketball winning track with a 51-39 non-conference victory over Tiospa Zina during a Warner Stratford Lions Classic last Saturday in Warner.
The Tigers would lead 14-12 after a quarter and then extended that advantage to 27-19 at halftime. Tiospa Zina would hang around and only trailed 39-34 with three quarters in the books. But the Tigers would hold their opponents to only five points in that quarter to seal the deal.
Ipswich received balanced scoring, being led by Tyler Hettich and Trevor Heinz with 11 points apiece and they each included a trey. Next would be Ian Beyers with nine points and he also included one trey. Carter Geditz and Blake Rich each scored six points and Colby Sylte three points thanks to an accurate trey. Chet Peterson also netted three points, followed by Tucker Miller with two points.
Tiospa Zina also had some balanced scoring, paced by Storm Sierra with 11 points. Juan Rios scored eight points and Ashden Sierra, seven points. Reondre Greeley contributed six points. He was followed by Nate Thomson with five points and CJ Bissonette tallied two points.
They were able to total 16 baskets that included four treys and shot 3-6 at the charity stripe. Ipswich countered with 20 field goals that included its four treys and added a 7-12 free throw performance.
The Tigers obtained 31 rebounds, led by Peterson with seven boards and they dished out eight assists, led by Heinz with three. The Tigers also came away with six steals, paced by Beyers with three thefts.
The Tigers will complete the regular season on Friday, Feb. 24 against Leola/Frederick in Leola. Region 6B Tournament play begins Monday, Feb. 27 with the #8 and #9 seeds playing. That winner joins the other teams on Tuesday, Feb. 28 for tournament play. The SoDak 16 qualifiers will be determined on March 3.
