Ipswich High School art students competed in the Northern State University Art Wars on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The students had 90 minutes to create a piece of art with a prompt in the categories of painting and drawing.
Kamryn Boettcher placed first in both drawing and painting. Quincy Olivier placed second in painting. Marcus Hofer also competed.
Boettcher and Olivier qualified to compete at the state level in Rapid City on March 18.
Art Wars is an in-the-moment competition where student artists, from multiple schools, compete against each other to make the best artwork possible in their category.
Art Wars started in Alexandria, Minn. in 2017. Alexandria Technical and Community College was the first venue of an Art Wars competition, having over 50 participants from seven different schools participate.
