Tigers stopped by Knights in SoDak 16

Ipswich dropped a 51-34 SoDak 16 boys' high school basketball outcome to Aberdeen Christian in a game that was played in the Aberdeen Central gym last Tuesday.

So the Knights earned another ticket to the State B that will be played on March 16-18 right back in Aberdeen at the Barnett Center.

Another area team returning to this year's boys' B will be our other Region 6B bracket champion Lower Brule which defeated Irene-Wakonda in their own SoDak 16 showdown last Tuesday.

Now back to that Tigers vs. Knights clash! The Tigers never led once in the game, but did create an early 2-2 tie with a Trevor Heinz basket.

But the Knights had their eyes on Heinz the rest of the night and he would only end up with five points. The Tigers were led by Tyler Hettich with eight points featuring a pair of treys.

The Knights would double Ipswich 15-7 in the first quarter and then led 29 20 at halftime. The closest Ipswich got in that quarter (and the rest of the game for that matter) was a 17-13 deficit right after a Ian Beyers trey.

The Tigers to their credit would hang around striking distance for some of the second half thanks to their own defensive efforts, but trailed 41-25 at the third break. And the Knights always seemed to have an answer when they needed one.

Carter Geditz became Ipswich's second highest scorer with his six points including a trey. And Beyers would match Heinz with five total points including that second-quarter trey, while Chet Peterson scored four points. Jase Konsor, Tucker Miller and Blake Rich all added two points.

The victorious team was led by Jackson Isakson with 14 points followed by Malek Weiker with 11 points, also obtaining double-figure scoring. Joey Johnson almost did that with nine points. And four more Knights combined for their remaining 17 points.

The Knights shot 21-47 from the floor including six three-balls and were 3-6 in free throw opportunities. The Tigers countered with a 13-44 shooting evening that included four treys and were 4-7 in free throw attempts.

Ipswich had 28 rebounds, led by Peterson with 10 boards. And the Knights countered with 34 rebounds paced by Isakson with 12 retrieves for a double-double.

Ipswich finished with eight turnovers and AC, seven.

The Tiger seniors this year included Tyler Hettich, Carter Geditz, Colby Sylte, Ian Beyers, Evan Onken and Turner Thorson.

Ipswich completed its season at 15-7 and Aberdeen Christian improved to 21-2.
