Ipswich attended a high school track and field event hosted by Bon Homme last Tuesday and it was well worth the trip south. The Ipswich girls indeed out-pointed Cedar Catholic of Hartington, Nebraska 108-101 for their team title, while the Tiger boys finished second only to that Nebraska school 131-103. Nine girls and boys teams were entered in that meet.
How successful were the Tigers according to coach Todd Thorson? "Trevor Heinz broke our school record in long jump (at 22-01.00) and Carter Geditz is ranked first in the state in 110 hurdles. Marley Guthmiller won three events and we had several other really good efforts and places."
One of those was a winning boys' high jump from Tyler Hettich at 6-00.00 and that Geditz first-place clocking was 15.57.
Guthmiller indeed won the 100-meter hurdles at 16.69, the 300-meter hurdles at 52.96 and the pole vault at 8-00.00. That event would earn the Tiger girls a ton of team points. That's because Kaitlyn Williams was second at 8-00.00 and Quincy Olivier was third also at 8-00.000. Kathryn Kilber came in at 7-06.00 for fourth and Jalyssa Hutson went 7-06.00 as well for fifth place.
And don't forget Madisyn Gellhaus with her first-place 3200-meter run clocking at 13:03.27.
