Ipswich boys State B Track & Field Meet champions

The Ipswich tracksters had a very productive State B weekend on May 25, 26 and 27 in Sioux Falls. "What a year," said IHS Coach Todd Thorson at the welcome home event Sunday night.

That's because the Tiger boys would tie for first in their team standings along with Gregory with 54 points apiece. Meanwhile the IHS girls would finish in eighth place with 28 points there. And in both cases they were mostly led by second through eighth placements, rather than firsts. And that would be expected at that level of competition.

Gracie Lange did place first in the girls high jump at 5-2 and Jalyssa Hutson was second in her pole vault at 9-6. That was a productive event for Ipswich with Marley Guthmiler third in 9-0 and Quincy Olivier eighth at 8-6.

The boys placed in all the relays at the State Meet. The top boys relay team was the 4x100 in second ran by Kyle Hettich, Colby Sylte, Tyler Hettich and Trevor Heinz in 44.38. Individually Trevor Heinz would be second in his specialty the long jump measured at 21-11.75.

"It was a big honor to be a state qualifier," Thorson said. Ipswich got the last Region championship he said in what he called a tough season. They had to deal with the weather this season and some of the team members had injury problems. "We overcame a lot," he said.

The remaining girls placement was the Triple Jump by Ashley Ptacek at 33-1 for fifth.
