It was a beautiful day for 2023 Trail Days on Saturday, June 17.
The evening began with a rodeo and the stands were full. That was followed by a concert. Urbandale Lane performed first, then Priscilla Block had a musical "Block Party."
Bulls and Broncs
Emily Knoll sang the National Anthem and Auctioneer, Lewis Reuer began the Calcutta. There were eight bull riders and nine saddle bronc riders vying for Ipswich Trail Day Champion.
First round bronc riders finished with Lane Hines from Wolsey, in third place; Whyley Rhunkie from Sundance, Wyo. in second place; and Kyle Hapney from DeSmet in first place. The rank bulls bucked all their riders in Round 1.
The Champion Bronc Rider in the finals was Kyle Hapney from DeSmet. Dawson Petrik from Lake Andes was the champion Bull Rider and Ryan Knutson from Belle Fourche finished second.
As a new venture this year, Spud Creek offered a pair of R Watson boots which could be picked up at HitchNPost in Aberdeen. Trail Day headliner, Pricillia Block, picked the #20 program. Tom Lacher was holding the winning program.
They also offered a facebook challenge to win the "Best Seats In The House" for the rodeo. April Feldman and Rich Lacher were the lucky winners.
Trail Days Fun
Trail Days fun began Friday with a golf tournament. The Wily Wizards 4-H Club sponsored the Amazing Race. Teams stopped at the participating businesses to complete each game. Then the Julie Heinz-Johnson 3x3 Basketball Tournament was held for teams boys and girls in grades 3-12.
Saturday began early with the 5K Run/Walk. The Trail Days parade featured more than 50 entries. There was a variety of entries including decorated floats, cars, tractors, semi-trucks and even a boat.
Saturday afternoon featured a car show, inflatables and a corn hole tournament. Magic Joe had two shows.
