Irene Schnaible

The funeral service for Irene Christine (Hieb) Schnaible, 101 years and 8 months of age, Aberdeen, was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July, 6, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor D. Thomas Rawerts officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Irene died Saturday, July 1, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Irene Christine Mohr was born October 14, 1921, to Christian and Magdalena (Pietz) Mohr in McPherson County. She grew up and attended country school in the area. She worked on the family farm north of Hosmer. Irene married Herbert Hieb on May 11, 1941. They made their home on the farm until moving to Hosmer in June of 1957. Irene and Herbert had two daughters, Caroline Irene and Phyllis Christine.

In 1959, they moved to Roscoe. Irene managed the school lunchroom and made meals for up to 350 students each school day for 15 years. In 1975, her husband Herbert died. On April 2, 1977, Irene married Warren Schnaible at the Lutheran Church in Roscoe. Irene worked at Eddie's Place drug store part-time for 25 years. She also did house cleaning part-time, worked at Donnie's Café for 3½ years, and also worked at JoAnn's clothing store, all in Roscoe.

Irene was a member of the Roscoe Lutheran Church where she was in Ladies Aid. For over 30 years, Irene was active in the Roscoe Garden Club. In 1992, they moved to Aberdeen. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She and Warren provided child care for two of their great-granddaughters: Madison from 1993-1996 and Clara 2003-2004.

Irene loved gardening, especially flowers, and baking. Her family looked forward to her kuchen and scalloped potatoes. Irene was a Minnesota Twins fan and loved watching them, especially taking trips to family in Minnesota to see them.

Grateful for having shared Irene's life are her grandchildren, Dawn Christine (David) Feickert Lenz of Rochester, Minn., Troy Feickert of Aberdeen, and Gwyn (Owen) Feickert Fischbach of Warner, Russell Ernst, and Ryan Ernst of Mina; great-grandchildren, Madison Christine (Max) Chelberg, Austin Minn.; Sydney Lenz, Rochester, Minn.; Clara Irene Fischbach and Ellis Fischbach, Warner; Great-great-grandchildren: Colby Chelberg and Nora Christine Chelberg. Step-children: John (Diane) Boheman, Sioux Falls; Dale (Becci) Schnaible, Phoenix, Ariz.; Celeste Geier, Hardin, Mont., and Janny Gibson, Billings, Mont.; step grandchildren: Jennifer Boheman, Chad Boheman, Rebecca Boheman, Amber Schnaible, Jake (Anise) Schnaible, Cole (Pamela) Schnaible, Jason (Gail) Geier, Chris Geier, Nikki (Victor) Geier, Tyson Gardner, Justin Schnaible, Austin Gibson, and sister-in-law Veryl German.

Preceding Irene in death are her parents Christian and Magdalena Mohr; her husbands, Herbert Hieb and Warren Schnaible; daughters and spouses, Caroline and Roger Ernst, Phyllis and Gerald Feickert; stepson Myron Schnaible; grandchildren, Rodney Ernst and Britta Schnaible; siblings, Milbert (Lena) Mohr and Mathilda (Art) Rohrbach.

The family prefers any memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 915 S. Dakota St., Aberdeen, SD, 57401.
