Ipswich Softball teams compete at State Tourney

The Ipswich girls' softball programs have wrapped up after a weekend in Sioux Falls at the state tournament.

The U12 team, coached by Linda Gauer, won three games and lost two on the weekend. (Watertown Crenlo 21-8, Faulkton 6-7, Sioux Falls Faini 14-7, Watertown Hurricane 11-3, Mobridge 1-13).

The weekend was highlighted by multiple grand slams from Sophie Knittel, daughter of Jesse and Wendy, who batted from both sides of the plate.

The U10 team, coached by Joe Galbraith, won two and lost two during their state tournament bid. Their first matchup was against a tough Mobridge team that had beat the home team twice earlier in the season. But the Ipswich Tigers came out, victorious, winning with a walk off single and RBI, by Mahlia Kadlec, daughter of Nathan and Deidre. The team then went on to beat Redfield, lost to Warner (the eventual state champion in the division), and lost to Redfield to end their session.
