Leo Jung was born May 21, 1929, to Emil and Emma (Gramm) Jung on a farm eight miles east of Hosmer. He grew up there and attended rural school through eighth grade. Leo was drafted to service in the Army in July 1951. He was stationed in Korea, and discharged in June 1953.

Leo was united in marriage to Lorraine Forkel on October 16, 1953. They lived on a farm 15 miles southeast of Hosmer where they raised five children: Larry, Linda, Lora, Linnet, and Luanne. They lived on the farm for 70 years, before moving to town in May 2023.

In addition to farming, Leo worked at Safeguard Industries from 1966 to 1992. He retired from full-time farming shortly after but continued to help his nephew, Glenn, on his farm.

Along with farming, Leo enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, listening to country and old-time music, dancing waltzes and polkas, coaxing a smile out of any small child he met, and helping Lorraine provide daycare for their great nieces and nephews: Tyler, Jessie, Shane, and Carly.

Leo is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Lorraine; children, Larry (Cindy) Jung, Linda Studnicka, Lora (Kim) Jundt, Linnet (Marty McGuire) Jung, and Luanne (Ron) Kroll; grandchildren, Justin (Karen) Jung, Daniel (Jennifer) Jung, Lucas (Kathryn) Jung, Erica Studnicka, Amanda (Ryan) Janish, Ryan (Alexandra Kurilla) Jundt, Brittany (Johnny) Bergeson, Casey (Steve) Johnston, and Parker Kroll; two step-grandchildren, Rob Studnicka and Lucas McGuire; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan, and Jameson Jung, Eleanor and Samuel Janish, Greyson, Rollin, and AJ Bergeson, and Allie and Mica Johnston; brothers, LeRoy (Peggy) Jung and Ben (Betty) Jung; sister-in-law, Ramona Jung; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Emma Jung; brothers, Melvin Jung and Alton Jung as well as two in infancy; and son-in-law Ray Studnicka.
