W.I.N. Junior Legion team sixth at state tourney

The Warner-Ipswich-Northville Junior Legion team finished in sixth place at the state tournament in Lennox this past weekend.

The tournament was plagued with water issues, all weekend, resulting in the fifth/sixth place contest being relocated to Groton.

In game first game, w.i.n. faced a tough Belle Fourche pitcher in Nolan Wahlfeldt who struck out 13 of the 27 batters he faced and only allowed 4 hits. While W.I.N.’s own pitcher, Devon Fischbach, struck out 9 during his 108 throws from the mound. Belle Fourche won the contest by blanking W.I.N. 0-3.

Game number two had a more favorable outcome. W.I.N. came away with a 3-2 victory over Elk-Point Jefferson. W.I.N. was led by Gavin Lane on the mound, who threw 87 pitches with 61 of them being strikes. The highlight was an incredible snag by center fielder, Xavier Kadlec, that led to a double play as all runners were heading home thinking the ball was well over Kadlec’s head.

The final matchup was a familiar one, with W.I.N. facing Groton on the opponent’s own home turf, Locke/Karst Field, due to the wet conditions of the Lennox field. Even with a strong 10 hits in the game, W.I.N. fell to Groton for the first time in this season’s match-up of the two teams with a score of 3-5.

The local boys finished their season with a record of 13-2.
