Edmunds County Producers May be Eligible for Emergency Conservation Program Assistance

Winter Storms have caused severe damage in Edmunds County.

If you’ve suffered severe damage to fences, you may be eligible for assistance under the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) administered by the Edmunds County Farm Service Agency (FSA)

For land to be eligible, the natural disaster must create new conservation problems that, if untreated, would:

• be so costly to rehabilitate that Federal assistance is or will be needed to return the land to productive agricultural use

• is unusual and is not the type that would recur frequently in the same area

• affect the productive capacity of the farmland

• impair or endanger the land

If you’ve suffered damage to fences due to the 2022-2023 winter storms, please contact the Edmunds County FSA Office and request assistance. The Signup deadline is August 25th, 2023.

For more information about ECP, contact the Edmunds County USDA Service Center at (605)426-6951 or visit fsa.usda.gov.

November 6, 2022 Fire

October 15 is the deadline to complete fence repair for the November 6, 2022 fire.  Please let us know when you've completed the fence repair so NRCS can complete a field visit to verify the work.  Obviously, we don't want to think about snow now, but we cannot verify completed work after it snows.  And this program will not be extended-this is a hard deadline.  We also need receipts for material purchased.

Reminders for FSA Direct and Guaranteed Borrowers with Real Estate Security

Farm loan borrowers who have pledged real estate as security for their Farm Service Agency (FSA) direct or guaranteed loans are responsible for maintaining loan collateral. Borrowers must obtain prior consent or approval from FSA or the guaranteed lender for any transaction that affects real estate security. These transactions include, but are not limited to:

• Leases of any kind

• Easements of any kind

• Subordinations

• Partial releases

• Sales

Failure to meet or follow the requirements in the loan agreement, promissory note, and other security instruments could lead to nonmonetary default which could jeopardize your current and future loans.

It is critical that borrowers keep an open line of communication with their FSA loan staff or guaranteed lender when it comes to changes in their operation. For more information on borrower responsibilities, read Your FSA Farm Loan Compass.
