North Central participated in a YTC varsity volleyball tourney last Saturday in Gettysburg.
The Thunder were defeated 2-0 by Herreid/Selby Area and also lost to Potter County in straight sets. But they defeated McIntosh 25-12, 25-19.
Versus McIntosh they were 46-57 in attacking the net with 20 kills, led by Amree Vander Vorst at 13-15 with seven kills. Natalie Bieber was 13-16 with six kills and Ella Batie, 8-11 with four kills.
In setting they were 64-66 with 17 assists. Sydney Bertsch did a lot of that, going 53-54 with 14 assists.
In serving the Thunder finished 45-49 and dropped in nine aces. They were led by Billie Jo Hoffman at 11-12 with three aces, Jenisa Jacobs went 9-10 with one ace and Bertsch, 8-8,2.
They came up with 33 digs led by Hoffman with eight and Bertsch added seven.
The Thunder lost to Herreid/Selby Area 25-7 and 25-23, showing a definite improvement during the match. They were 51-70 with eight kills at the net. Vander Vorst finished 11-15 with four kills and Batie was 12-15 with two kills. And for good measure Hoffman was 10-11 with one kill.
That was enabled by their 84-87 setting effort with seven assists. Bertsch was 56-57 with five assists and Vander Vorst went 5-5 in setting including two assists. In serving they were 29-31 with three aces. Sydnee Malsam was 7-7 with one ace, Vander Vorst, 6-6 with two aces and Hoffman, 5-6.
They had 41 digs, led by Jacobs with 15 and Bertsch with nine. They had seven solo blocks and eight assisted blocks, led by Batie with four blocks.
Versus Potter County they lost 25-16 and 25-18. But they had 50 accurate hits that included 17 kills. Vander Vorst went 16-20 with five kills and Batie, 10-11 with four kills. Bieber also finished 9-12 with four kills.
They were 75-78 in setting and dished out 13 assists. (Bertsch went 58-60 with 10 assists.)
In serving they were 30-35 with five aces. Jacobs was 8-8 with one ace, Malsam, 6-8 with two aces. and Vander Vorst, 6-6 with one ace.
They had 32 digs, paced by Jacobs with nine and Vander Vorst with seven. Batie added two blocks and Bieber, one.
The Thunder hosted South Border, N.D. in Eureka on Aug. 29. They play on the road against Faulkton on Thursday and Mobridge-Pollock on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
