North Central's netters entered a high school volleyball invite last Saturday in Mobridge.
Mobridge won the event, defeating Stanley County 25-3, 25-19.
NC started their day with a 2-0 win over Ipswich — 25-15 and 25-16.
Amree VanderVorst was 13-17 in hitting with four kills. Billy Jo Hoffman was 7-9, with three kills and Ella Batie was 7-8, 3. (The team totaled 39 hits with 14 kills.)
The Thunder was 59-62 in setting with 11 assists. They were led by Sydney Bertsch at 45-47 with nine assists.
In serving they were 46 of 50 with nine aces paced by Sydnee Malsam at 11-11 with one ace. Jenisa Jacobs went 12-12 with six aces and Hoffman was 11-13, 1.
They had 36 digs led by Jacobs with 13 of them and Malsam added 7.
Then they were up against a very decent host-team.
The Thunder would trail the Tigers 25-16 and 25-22, not bad at all. They were 44 of 53 in hitting with 14 kills led by Amree VanderVorst 13-13 with three kills. And Ella Batie finished 9-10 with three kills as well.
They had 34 accurate serves that included four aces. Billie Jo Hoffman finished 9-11 at the line with three aces and Sydnee Malsam was 7-7 with the remaining ace. In setting they were 60 of 66 with nine assists. Sydney Bertsch went 46-50 with all of the NC assists.
The Thunder had 28 digs paced by Jenisa Jacobs with 10 digs and VanderVorst with seven of them. Batie added two of their three blocks.
NC vs. Cheyenne Eagle Butte
And they were actually able to upend Cheyenne Eagle Butte 25-14 and 25-23. They included 25 kills in their 54 hits. Batie went 15-17 with six kills, Vander Vorst was 12-13 with five kills and Bertsch 5-5 that also included five kills.
They were 65-66 in setting including 19 assists. Bertsch went 51 of 52 with 13 assists.
In serving they were 37-49 with seven aces led by Jacobs at 16-18 with five aces.
They came away with 19 digs led by Bertsch and Jacobs with five each and one block.
NC vs. Timber Lake
The Thunder also topped Timber Lake 14-25, 25-16 and 25-20. This one took a little longer but with a very positive result.
They were 72 of 90 at the net which included 30 kills. VanderVorst was 28-32 with 12 kills and Natalie Bieber finished 16-23 there with seven kills. That was enabled by 107 accurate sets mostly by Bertsch at 81-84 with 25 assists.
They had 55 serves in 64 tries that featured 10 aces. VanderVorst went 10-10 with three aces and Malsam 14-15 with a pair of aces.
The Thunder totaled 45 digs led by Jacobs with 13 and VanderVorst with eight. Batie added two solo blocks and one assisted and Lindsey Geier contributed one assist.
The Thunder hosted Langford Area Tuesday night in Eureka. They will play in the Subway Invite in Ipswich on Saturday. The Thunder travels to play Sully Buttes on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
