Sunshine Bible's volleyball team was able to hang around pretty well Thursday, Sept. 7 in Ipswich, but the host team would still prevail in a straight-sets 3-0 sweep.
Ipswich indeed had to rally to capture the first set 25-21 after the SBA netters had manufactured a brief 21-18 lead.
Ipswich then found the second set to be a little more relaxing with its 25-15 victory. And the third set was capped by a Kaylin Onken kill for the Tigers' set point and match point and a 25-19 win.
Ipswich would end up with 70 accurate hits including 35 kills, led by Gabby Wald at 24/30 with 15 kills. Marley Guthmiller added a 29-34 evening at the net with 10 kills. (The visitors were 46/58 at the net with seven kills.)
The Tigers went 74 of 80 in serving with seven aces. Guthmiller finished 14-15 with three aces and Reaghan Bowers was 18-19 with two aces.
The Tigers finished 147 of 148 in their setting duties with 26 assists. They were paced by Bowers at 73-73 with 14 assists and Josie Knutson went 52-53 with 11 assists.
Ipswich claimed 57 digs, led by Brianna Geditz and Charli Rawden with nine each.
IPSWICH VS. SULLY BUTTES
Ipswich had played at Sully Buttes on Sept. 5 and sustained a 3-0 setback.
The scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-19, keeping things fairly close for the Tigers.
They had 24 kills in 109 hits, five serving aces among 52 accurate serves and 21 set assists. Defensively the Tigers came up with 47 digs and six block assists.
They had 83.9 service efficiency.
