The Yellowstone Trail Conference cross country meet was held Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Gettysburg. North Central placed second in both the YTC varsity standings.
The Thunder girls had 23 team points and were second only to Potter County's winning six points. (The Thunder edged third-place Herrreid/Selby Area's 27.)
Potter County's Dannika Kaup wore the winner's crown in 19:20.34. Emma Schlachter of PC placed second individually in 19:53.99, followed by her teammate Jadyn Ahlemeier who was third in 20:03.11. (Yet another Battler teammate Paige Ahlemeier was fourth in 21:18.13.)
But the Thunder were led by Grace Roth in fifth at 21:34.71, followed by eighth-place Melanie Dallenbach in 21:56.87. Their third scorer that day was Mikaela Malsom in 11th at 22:34.73 and Kassandra Abbas was 12th in 22:43.18. Sophie Kroll added a 17th-place effort at 26:28.75.
Jayden Taken Alive of McLaughlin became the boys' varsity champion with his 16:34.82 clocking. McLaughlin would also edge the Thunder boys 14 to 18 to finish first in their team chase. Meanwhile Potter County's Nicholas Schlachter was narrowly second among the varsity boys with his 16:39.00 finish.
The Thunder countered with Gabe Johnson in fifth at 17:50.32, followed by Anthony Miller's sixth in 18:09.25. Their next scorer was Drew Arbach in seventh in 18:34.04. Avery Wells then was clocked at 18:35.05 for eighth place and Aaron Ingerson would also reach the Top 10 at ninth with his 18:58.24 outcome. Jason Arbach then finished 13th in 19:46.91 and Theo Haerter would round out their effort with his 17th-place 20:11.81.
The 4A regional meet is October 12 in Chamberlain.

North Central: 6-Katherina Malsom, 16:06.42; 7-Olivia Matott, 16:29.21; 8-Gwen Pruskowski, 18:16.55; 9-Unity Walmarans, 18:20.69
