Ipswich was defeated 60-14 in a Class 9AA high school first-round football play off last Thursday in Howard.
Ipswich would score the first TD of the night when it accepted a punt from Howard’s own territory to around the IHS 30. It was a 60-yard TD pass from Max Kulesa to Kyle Hettich. But the conversion play failed.
Ipswich’s only other score came late in the second quarter a pass of 78 yards from Kulesa to Hettich.
The host Tigers would end up with nine touchdowns and six conversions points. Their final TD was a run of 10 yards.
A highlight of Ipswich’s night was Kulesa’s passing. He passed for 302 yards. Trevor Heinz got a school mark of 60 season catches. The IHS Tigers would earn 61 rushing yards, led by Hettich with 43 yards and Casey Geditz with 18. The receivers were led by Hettich with 150 yards on six catches. Next would be Chet Peterson with six grabs for 101 yards. Heinz would finish with seven catches for 50 yards.
The IHS tacklers were busy as the Howard Tigers gained some 600 total yards. Ipswich indeed had 38 total tackles, led by Geditz, Peterson and Heinz each with five solos.
The IHS seniors in this 4-5 season were Trevor Heinz, Chet Peterson, and Kadyn Weisser. So they should already be looking forward to next year after this rebuilding year.
