Fiddlin' Around

We enjoyed watching the All-State Orchestra and Chorus in Rapid City Saturday evening on Public TV. It is challenging trying to pick out the Ipswich and Edmunds Central vocalists in the sea of faces.

We actually have a shirttail relative from Rapid City in the orchestra. So she was very easy to pick out because she plays a very tiny instrument — the piccolo. And she was the only one, next to the flute players, with the larger flutes. You could watch and hear the instrument since it has a very high pitch, sounding like a tin whistle. She might continue playing the tin whistle some day in a Celtic band somewhere.

If you missed it, they usually rebroadcast the concert on Thanksgiving.

The piccolo musician (piccoloist according to the dictionary), my first cousin’s granddaughter, is obviously very musical. She was also one of two Drum Majors for the Rapid City Stevens marching band.
