The North Central Thunder volleyball team fashioned a 3-2 Region 6A victory over Dupree last Monday in Dupree. The win advanced the Thunder to face Miller last Thursday in Miller for a bracket championship.
Meanwhile versus Dupree the Thunders' respective game results were 25-20, 15-25, 19-25, 25-19 and 15-13 in the tie-breaker set.
They were paced by Amree VanderVorst in hitting with her 41-45 evening with 13 kills. Next would be Lindsey Geier 19-19 with six kills and Natalie Bieber 31-37 with eight kills. The team was 161-180 with 43 kills.
The Thunder team enjoyed 11 serving aces in its overall 91-98 serving effort. VanderVorst went 16-17 with six of the aces, while Bieber was 19-19 with one ace and Billie Jo Hoffman added 15 accurate serves including three aces.
Sydney Bertsch finished 174-188 in setting and included 34 assists. The Thunder totaled 221 sets that featured 39 assists.
The Thunder came away with 133 digs, led by Jenisa Jacobs with 37 digs and VanderVorst with 24. Ella Batie added three blocks, while Bieber had two solo blocks and one assisted. Geier then contributed one assist.

North Central was defeated by Miller at Miller Thursday, Nov. 2 in a Region 6A bracket championship volleyball match.
The host team would indeed win in straight sets 25-21, 25-14 and 25-12.
And this would be the final volleyball appearance for four NC seniors Jenisa Jacobs, Mackenzie Kaiser, Billie Jo Hoffman and Natalie Bieber. It capped their season record at 12-18 with the 1-1 tourney split. They are coached by Ashley Grenz.
But North Central was able to obtain 76 hits in 95 tries with 20 kills. Amree VanderVorst went 23-26 with seven kills and Hoffman was 19-20 with five kills followed by Ella Batie at 11-13,3. The Rustlers were 94-110 in hitting including 36 kills.
The Rustlers also used a 70-74 serving advantage that featured eight aces. The Thunder were 43-49 with four aces, led by Sydnee Malsam at 7-8 with two aces. Next would be Hoffman at 10-11 with one ace, followed by Sydney Bertsch at 8-9 with one ace.
The Thunder were 107-109 in setting that included 18 assists. And Bertsch would have a majority of their assists with 14 of them.
The Thunder's defensive effort featured 39 digs, paced by Jacobs with 13 digs. And Hoffman had eight digs while Bertsch finished with six. Miller countered with a total of 64 digs. North Central got a block apiece from Batie, Bieber and VanderVorst.
Region 6A bracket champions played in the SoDak 16 Tuesday — Mobridge-Pollock vs. Wagner in TF Riggs High School in Pierre and Miller vs. Flandreau in Huron. All classes will play in the State Volleyball Tournament Nov. 16, 17, 18 in Rapid City.
