Herreid -Selby Area fashioned a 3-0 high school Region 6B regional victory while hosting Ipswich last Monday. The individual set scores all in favor of the hosts were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-11.
The Wolverines obtained 68 accurate serves that included a dozen aces and were 71-84 in hitting that would include 30 kills. Defensively they came up with 61 digs. They used a balanced team effort on both sides of the net.
“They served and passed us right out of everything we wanted to do,” said Coach Trent Osborne. “We found ourselves constantly scrambling, trying to handle their serves effectively.”
But Ipswich would obtain 17 kills, led by Marley Guthmiller with seven of them and Kaylin Onken added five kills.
The Tigers then featured three serving aces in their overall serving effort, one each by Josie Knutson, Gracyn Kadlec and Onken.
Meanwhile on the defensive side of the net, Ipswich totaled 38 digs, led by Guthmiller with 10 and Kathryn Kilber with seven digs. The Tigers also obtained 2.5 blocks that evening.
Ipswich had no seniors this season, so will definitely be looking forwards to next season. They ended their season at 7-21 while the Wolverines would improve to 20-6 with their victory.
“It's a valuable lesson for our young team, and coaches as well, as we strive to improve and face future challenges with even greater determination and preparedness,” Osborne said. “We are excited to see all 22 of our athletes return next season bigger, faster, and stronger.”
