The funeral service for Allan Jung, 87, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, at the First Reformed Church, Aberdeen with Rev. Hank Bowen officiating. Burial at Bethany Cemetery in Hosmer. Allan died Saturday, November 11, 2023 at his home in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 with family present from 5-7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street, Aberdeen.
Allan Jung was born September 17, 1936, to Gideon and Wanitha (Neifer) Jung on a farm northeast of Hosmer and was raised there until the age of four. In 1940, Allan and his family moved to a farmstead west of Roscoe. He farmed with his mother and father and remained there until 2012. In 2012, he moved to Aberdeen. He was a member of Hosmer Reformed Church, where he was baptized and confirmed and later served as deacon. He was also a member of the First Reformed Church in Aberdeen.
On December 27, 1959, Allan married Marlys Dickhaut and together they had four children, Allan F., Kathy, Karen, and John. After Marlys passed away he married Bonnie Beck in 1998, then Carolyn Gibbs Hanson in 2002.
Allan was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and camping and fishing with Marlys's family. He loved entertaining family and friends, dancing, and traveling to Texas with Carolyn to see family. He often attended fairs and showed cattle. He could be found watching good westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Wagon Train.
The family would like to thank his wife Carolyn, all the caregivers through the years, and the Hospice staff for their loving and exceptional care.
Grateful for having shared Allan's life are his wife Carolyn Jung; children, Allan Jung, Jr., Kathy (Jim) Serfoss, Karen (Scott) Nehlich, and John (Stephanie) Jung; grandchildren, Christopher (Ky) Jung, Aleece (Casey) Hein, Krystina Hauck, Jordan Serfoss (Shayla Malsam), Elizabeth (Aaron) Johnson, Hannah Nehlich, Mattilyn Nehlich, Alex (Shelby) Jung, Brooke Jung, Jacob Jung, Kale Pharis; great-grandchildren, Carter and Everleigh Hein, Gavin and Addilyn Hauck, and Brexten Serfoss; brothers-in-law, Duane (Betty) Dickhaut, Darrell (Barb) Dickhaut, and Darvin Dickhaut; sisters-in-law Mavis (Jerry) Walton, Janice Dickhaut, Darlene (Willie) Rothacker; stepchildren, Janel (Curtis) Merkel, Bryon (Pamela) Hanson, Bradley (Pamela) Hanson, Lance (Sharon) Hanson, Jayne (Marc) Rossow, and Jill (Chad) Sandve and Aunt Ruth Schumacher.
Preceding Allan in death are his parents Gideon and Wanitha Jung; first wife Marlys Jung; second wife Bonnie Jung; daughter-in-law Denise Jung; sister-in-law Carol Carr and brother-in-law Denny Dickhaut.
