Stanislaus Antone Malsom was born on July 30, 1940, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Baer) Malsom. He was raised northwest of Mina on a farm and attended country school two miles away. He took over the family farm after his father became ill.

Stan married Diane Kiehn on September 12, 1962; they celebrated their 61st anniversary this fall. Stan and Diane had four children. They milked cows, raised pigs and chickens for a time, and had cattle for 40 years. They moved into Aberdeen in 2002, and their new home was only the second place Stan had ever lived! Stan worked at Twin City Fan after turning the farm over to his son, Jason. He later worked at POET in Groton. Stan retired in 2007, but it didn't really take because he always had to be busy. He had a variety of retirement jobs - Walmart greeter, Super 8 breakfast attendant, and mowing at Lee Park golf course, which he did for 12 years.

Stan continued to "farm" in his yard with a beautiful garden of vegetables and flowers. He grew canna lilies that were as high as the eaves of his house. Being a jack of all trades, he was often called upon to help his children with one project or another; there was nothing he couldn't fix. He taught himself to drywall and lay ceramic tile without the benefit of Google. Stan enjoyed his retirement doing whatever projects struck his fancy. He had his daily Menards walks where he often ran into friends to visit with. Stan rarely missed a cattle sale at either of the Aberdeen sale barns, where he usually found someone to catch up with. He cared for the 1951 International truck his father bought. Stan drove the truck in parades regularly, once even traveling to Rose City, Minn., for a threshing show that featured International Harvester trucks.

Stan is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Joe (Rosanne) Malsom of Aberdeen, Jeff (Cheryl) Malsom of Ipswich, Janet (Casey) O'Connell of Aberdeen, and Jason (Erin) Malsom of Mina; grandchildren, Ryan (Shawna), Mathew, Luke (Shay), Sarah, Carson, Seth, and Jaycee as well as one great-grandson, Payton.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Malsom along with two brothers, Valentine and Casper Malsom.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at http://www.schriversmemorial.com.
