Tiger girls fall to Wildcats

Ipswich traveled to Northwestern for a LRC girls basketball confrontation last Thursday, Jan. 11 and would sustain a 67-37 defeat in a battle of Wildcats vs. Tigers.

The hosts signaled their intentions with an early 24-4 lead and still led at intermission 45-23. They would grab a 58-32 lead with a quarter to play and would coast to their decisive win. They would enter a trio of double-figure scorers led by Ashley Haven with 24 points. Ana Ratigan was next with 16 points and Sophie Troske added 10 points. Five more Wildcats would enter their scorebook that evening.

Ipswich, meanwhile, was led by Gabby Wald with 18 points including a trey. Brianna Geditz had eight points that included a pair of treys and Marley Guthmiller would add seven points to their cause. And Anna Nierman and Kaylin Onken each contributed two points.

Ipswich made 10 baskets that included the three treys and shot 14-21 at the charity stripes. The hosts countered with 29 floor shots in 59 tries and were able to include five treys. They were 4-8 in their free throw attempts.

Ipswich was out-rebounded 37-20. Haven and Ella Boekelheide each had nine of them for the hosts and Guthmiller had six retrieves for Ipswich.

Ipswich had 12 turnovers and Northwestern 13, so that aspect of the game was fairly close. Three of those Wildcats miscues were directly caused by Tiger steals.

The girls and boys were scheduled to play North Central on Jan. 16 in Roscoe. The IHS girls will host Faulkton on Jan. 18.
