Ipswich and North Central split a girls/boys varsity basketball twin-bill last Tuesday in Roscoe. The hosts would capture the girls game 45-21 and the Tiger boys would respond with a 52-26 win of their own.
The Thunder girls would jump ahead 19-4 at the end of the opening quarter and then led 33-6 at intermission. They would then carry a 38-9 edge into the final stanza and coasted to the win.
Ella Batie was the game's top scorer for the Thunder with her 18 points and Amree Vander Vorst wasn't too far behind Batie with 14 counters that would include one trey.
Next would be Lindsey Geier with five points, followed by Alaina Dosch with four points. Katelyn Engelhart and Sydney Bertsch each contributed two points.
Ipswich countered with six points by Marley Guthmiller in a balanced scoring effort that evening. Jalyssa Hutson indeed scored four points and Gabby Wald, three points. Kaylin Onken, Tristen Geditz, Anna Nierman and LaVayah Russell each added two points.
The victors were able to score 17 field goals including their lone trey and were 10-16 in free throw tries. Meanwhile Ipswich shot in seven two-point baskets plus seven free throws in 11 tries.
Now for the boys varsity outcome! The hosts would only get outscored 8-5 after a quarter and still only trailed 21-16 at halftime. But Ipswich was able to lead 41-19 with a quarter to play and then outscored the Thunder 11-7 in quarter number four.
Ipswich would be led by Jace Konsor with his 20 points including six treys. Chet Peterson also got into double-figure scoring with his 10 points that included one trey. Kyle Hettich netted two treys for his six points. And Trevor Heinz also tossed in six points. Tucker Kadlec had four points while Jaxon Holt added a trey and Xavier Kadlec netted three points.
The Thunder were paced by Cooper Oxner with nine points on three treys and Raynor Sprague was next with six points. Dawson Walz had four points and Trent Beyers netted three points as did Cole Beitelspacher with his trey. And Harrison Beyers added a free throw to complete their ledger.
Ipswich utilized 20 floor shots that included those 10 treys and got a 2-2 effort in free throws. The Thunder countered with 10 baskets that featured four treys and added a 2-4 effort at the charity stripes.
Rebounding saw Ipswich being led by Peterson with 10 boards for a double-double night and Xavier Kadlec was next with five rebounds. (They totaled 25 rebounds.) The Thunder grabbed 30 rebounds, led by Sprague with seven rebounds and Cole Beitelspacher with six retrieves. Meanwhile NC sustained 20 turnovers and Ipswich nine.
